Zoho have just announced an update of their developer platform for Zoho Creator aided at developers planning to build SaaS Solutions on the platform. Features will include lifecycle management, subscriptions and multiple tenancy. This could be a very exciting opportunity for people looking to build solutions for others. Apps created with the platform can only be sold through Zoho's marketplace - but this provides an immediately available route to market. I'll update this post when I know more.

Yesterday, FileMaker introduced their fully Cloud offering which seems to be offering fully hosted and cloud based server/client service for FileMaker apps. The apps are still built using the Mac or Windows based apps as before. This should be seen and a great move for FileMaker customers who can afford/justify the fairly large $39 per user per month licence fee - and with a minimum of 5 users. To put this price in perspective, Knack's Professional licence is $79 per month with unlimited users and Ninox is $8.33 per user per month! 10 User Comparison over 12 months Tadabase - $888.00 (for Plus plan unlimited users) Knack - $948.00 (Note - would be the same for 100 users+) Ninox - $999.60 Airtable - $2400.00 (for Pro licence) FileMaker - $4,680.00 That's certainly quite a spread of pricing - and in my opinion this doesn't reflect the value of respective products in any way.

I have just updated the Database Comparator to include Tadabase - and also made it available as a Google Sheet so that it's more accessible for people.

Although not strictly marketed as Online Databases, both AwareIM and Bubble are no-code platforms you can use to build database solutions for your business. AwareIM ( www.awareim.com ) version 8.4 brings some minor improvements and new features. Bubble ( https://bubble.io ) is definitely an option for building your business solutions and apps. You can build sites and apps which look really professional with complete design and layout flexibility. This is perhaps the main differentiator compared to our Online Databases - but it does mean more work! I have built out a competent CRM solution on the platform whilst others are building web sites/apps. Worth a look.

Tadabase, which has been in beta now for some time, has been officially 'launched' today. You can build really nice looking apps with it using a very flexible screen designer: Very similar to Knack in many ways (check out this comparison https://tadabase.io/tadabase-vs-knack ), it has loads of features for building sophisticated solutions. More to follow in the next few days in the form of a review and I will add it to my side by side comparison document as well.

With the addition of the latest Process Manager app, I now have 3 free Ninox applications available to download and use from our sister site, Online Database Solutions: KasPer Pro - a Human Resource Management application covering People Management, Absence and Vacation, Training, Appraisals, Benefits, Onboarding and other Checklists, Qualifications and Skills, etc. KasCur Pro - this is a CRM application covering Leads, Opportunities, Sales Forecasting, Support Management and includes Activity management with personal task lists and Kanbans. KAS Process Manager - with this latest app, you can manage and standardise all the processes and projects in your business. Create templates for each process from which you can create live processes and monitor the progress and performance of your team against deadlines. All of these apps are free to use with no restrictions on the number of records or users. You will need a Ninox licence to run them. Each app is supplied 'locked' but an upgrade licence is available for each which will allow you to customise the app using Ninox's low code tools and also enable automated email alerting features which are disabled in the free version. See Online Database Solutions for more details.

Following a conversation with Carl yesterday, I decided to take a look at Tadabase - for me a new entrant to the world of online databases and still in Beta (no licence fees at the moment). It was immediately obvious that Tadabase is virtually a clone of Knack so I was wondering if anyone knows any of the history here before I decide whether to do a review or even use for client work?

If you've used Action Links in Knack, you may have wondered whether it's possible to replace the hyperlink with a customised button of your choice - well with a little CSS you can do it - here's how: First the CSS In the CSS, we can define a new class of button with the following code: .redButton { background: #ff0000; border: 1px solid #ff0000; border-radius: 4px; padding: 5px 20px; color: #ffffff; display: inline-block; font: normal 600 14px/1 "Calibri", sans-serif; text-align: center; text-shadow: none; } As you can see, there are quite a few parameters you can change - in this case you get a red button with white lettering: To actually add the button to the Action link you simply have to enter the following HTML in the Link Text field: <button type="button" class='redButton'>Archive</button>

I often use 'List' views in my apps - for example for showing employees in an HR app: The only problem is that, as standard, list views do not have a border around each record and this can make them look untidy - and I also like the data to be centred. The following CSS will achieve this: .kn-list-item-container { border: 2px solid #e9e9e9; text-align: center; }

Sometimes users can be frustrated when using popup pages because they find that the popup closes if they accidentally click off the view. The following couple of lines of code can change this behaviour (as well as, optionally, removing the 'X' button on the popup): //this code remove the close button and prevents clicking off a popup window $(document).on('knack-scene-render.scene_XX', function(event, scene) { $("button.close-modal").remove(); $('.kn-modal-bg').off('click'); }); With the popup set in this way, the user would be forced to use the submit button to close and therefore have to complete the operation.

I've just written two blog posts about using Process Street for employee on-boarding, both with and without a database to trigger the checklist.
